Scituate Community Christmas
Scituate, MA 02066
Founded in 1989, Scituate Community Christmas is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization formed to help provide services and new Christmas gifts to Scituate families who are faced with economic or other hardships. Since 1989, Scituate Community Christmas has served thousands of families needing assistance.
The organization’s focus includes individuals, families, children under the age of 18, at Christmas, the disabled, and elderly without family in the area. There is a strict residency requirement; all recipients of gifts and or services must reside in the Town of Scituate.
Scituate Community Christmas is recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization under the Internal Revenue Service (Federal Identification Number 22-3051383). The organization is governed by a Board of Directors.
The organization also has a Criteria Committee, comprised of three members of the Board of Directors, which makes decisions on recipients who request assistance.
Requests for Assistance
Requests for assistance may come from a variety of sources. Clergy, social workers, neighbors, friends, and concerned others may submit names of individuals/families who may need services. Service requests are accepted all year long through referrals via phone, email or through the website
Families are contacted to verify need, along with the information necessary for services to be provided. At Christmas, information is necessary for Santa to choose appropriate toys for each child. Requests during the year will be met if possible, based on Criteria Committee review. At Christmas special requests will be considered and fullfilled if feasible.
CHRISTMAS - Susan Phippen House, 125 Mann Lot Road, Scituate MA hours are as follows:
We open for business starting on the first Monday in December. The hall is staffed Monday – Wednesday, 12 pm to 2 pm and Saturday 12-2 pm. We will be closed Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
Our main source of funding comes from raffle calendars that are sent to Scituate residents. By making a donation to the raffle, you are supporting our mission and helping your fellow citizens. Donations of cash or services are accepted at any time in order to meet requests for aid all year long.
Funds are used to purchase gift certificates for our recipient families and elderly or provide financial support during an emergency. We encourage a donation of gift certificates that are redeemable at local businesses, but will accept all gift card donations. During the holidays we also accept donations of toys, crafts, puzzles, books, games and sports equipment. Clothing donations are not encouraged, as matching items to our families is difficult. Gift cards allow the parents to make the correct clothing choices for their child. We provide wrapping supplies to our families so they can participate in the gift giving experience.
Volunteers are Needed Please check our website for current needs during the holidays. Occasionally we will need volunteers for shopping and assisting our residents; this could include driving someone to a medical appointment, helping the elderly with small home repairs or chores. If you are interested, please submit your name and contact information thru our website.
